My name is A.Fatih Atik and i’m a neurosurgery resident at Marmara University, Department of Neurosurgery, this is my second year.
My hometown is Elazig which is located eastern of Turkey,My education was mostly in boarding schools at Elazıg, Malatya and finally in Istanbul.
My Highschool was Malatya science highschool which accepts students after a countrywide examination.
My Medical Faculty was Istanbul University,Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. I graduated here at 2005 after that i started to prepare TUS( Tıpta Uzmanlık Sınavı-Medical Specialist Examination) exam, This is the only way in Turkey if you want to be a clinical resident in any university. So briefly everthing went as it planned and i started my neurosurgery residency.
In my university years , i tried to become a socially active student because i always believed a doctor have to improve their skills not for only medical practice but in large number of ways (Technology, Literature, fine arts, personel relations skills and so on..) so i set up a student organization called” Computer and Communication Club”(A.K.A Medicomp) afterwards me and club members started to organize seminers, courses about different issues ( web design, programming, medical illustration, fast reading techniques etc..) and personally i started to develop web pages for some of our departments or professors, some of them are still avaliable today some of them not. That’s how i started to build web pages.
About neurosurgery:
Since my first year as a medical student, i always dreamed about being a neurosurgeon and try to understand mystries of brain…it was powerful, enigmatic and delicate. you respect it and afraid to hurt at the same time, nervous system was the mysterious kingdom of the body…There was a big effect for this decision: that my uncle passed out because of this disease just before i started to medical school.
Frankly speaking nobody supported me about my decision except my family, everybody tried to change my mind but it’s understandable. No people can do it beside who loves and wants to dedicate theirselves to this profession, it’s hard to hang on in this job.
I worked voluntarly in neurophysiology lab at İstanbul Faculty of Medicine, joined textbook reading sessions at Neurology Department and i took my elective internship at Istanbul Faculty of Medicine-Department of Neurosurgery.
After graduation i decided to join most famous neurosurgery programme in Turkey and it was in Marmara University. After waiting a free resident position about a year, Marmara University neurosurgery Dep. anounced for a free position for one person and i got that position…
Now…My aim is improve my knowlodge and skills in neurosurgery practice and learn more and more every day…i’m on my way, and nothing can stop it hereafter…
